Well, erm... I had all I could eat sushi and my companion had the teppanyaki steak. The service was kind and attentive, and the chef amiable and talented with the grill. That is why they get two stars. The food, unfortunately, did not match the service. The teppanyaki was pronounced good by all who ordered it- but the fried rice I sampled seemed a little one-note and the steak I sampled was overly tenderized. I also noticed that the dipping sauce distributed for all meat entrees at the table was eerily similar to the house dressing we had ordered on our salads. Again, for me, unimpressive. Other people liked it, though, so I could be just plain picky. One thing I will give them props for is the presence of sriracha on the table. Not at all Japanese, but tasty, nonetheless. The sushi? ::sigh:: I love sushi, and have varying standards based on price. I don't expect as much from all-you-can-eat joints because I believe you get what you pay for. However, Kinkaku's sushi was heavy on rice that I didn't think "al dente," necessarily, just too sweet and too thickly rolled onto the ingredients. Avoid the "Smoky Mtn." roll. I should have known better myself, but I was trying to be open-minded/adventurous. I can't believe I'm saying this about someplace, but don't go there for the sushi if you have an experienced palate. If you don't, have a ball; it's cheap and comes with soup/salad. If you do, stick with the Teppanyaki instead. At least it's amusing to watch.

This place is a great Pigeon Forge treat for those who are tired of all the chain restaurants that plague this area. First we sat the the bar that was in the lobby area, we ordered a Kirin Japanese Beer and some sushi to start off before our meal. On the advice of the sushi chef he prepared a "Volcano Roll" and OMG it is the best, perfect for two to split as an appitizer before your meal. After we finished that the sushi chef gave us a "Saki Bomb" on the house! (This is saki and red bull heated up) How cool was that! We then moved to the habachi side of the restaurant and we met some friends there and we occupied a whole table. Our chef was awesome and put on a great show for us. The food was very well prices ($12.95 for dinner) and WAY to much food to eat, had to take home a box full!! (Hey Im not comlaining) The atmosphere is nice, ambient oriental music and great service and a final bill that dident break the bank! We left the establishment full and buzzing! Thanks Kinkaku!!

Kinkaku for sushi was pretty terrible. My husband noted afterwards that if we ever go to another sushi/hibachi place and the sushi portion of the restaurant is really small, turn around and leave. We tried the "All you can eat" for $15.95. The rolls were over-saturated with rice, the rice itself was crunchy (more like al dente), and the seaweed in the rolls were overly chewy. When we tried to use a 15 percent off coupon, we were told that because the all you can eat was a supposed special, it didn't count. Sigh. The service itself was pretty decent. The waitress was attentive and she filled up my husband's drink fairly often. She gave me a whole pot of green tea, which I was darn happy about because it can annoy me to wait for a refill of hot tea. The meal overall cost $40 including tip. We get better sushi for much cheaper at home. I *might* go back for the hibachi (I would imagine that's pretty hard to screw up), but I'm never going to eat their sushi ever again.

We found ourselves in Pigeon Forge for the very first time in August and after reading the reviews of this place we figured we'd give it a try as the kids seem to enjoy fried rice and we are big fans of Sakura in this area. It was okay. I was hoping for some better prices as I'd read here but honestly they weren't that much better than Sakura. The quality of the food was okay. Didn't enjoy the fried rice as much and I'll admit we didn't try the sushi though I would have liked too...it just would have made it that much more expensive. Not feeling a real need to return here. It was just ok.

BEWARE!!! The sushi was good, I had the all-you-can-eat meal for $16. After making it through my first round (three rolls) I had to hunt down the waitress to place my order for the second round. The menu says it's another 3 rolls but she insisted that I only get one at at a time. Not a big deal, but a little annoying that they were making it hard to eat all I could considering I was paying. I got my check, paid and left. After leaving I was thinking about what my girlfriend and I ordered and what we paid and it didn't add up. Come to find out she added gratuity into the check and didn't tell me. Long story short I turned around and went to get my money back and confront the situation. When I asked to see the check and explained the situation she was extremely rude and told me that 'it wasn't that big tip anyway.' Very sneaky! I will NOT return to this restaurant. I tipped 20% on top of what she stole from me by adding gratuity without telling me and then had the nerve to tell me that 20% was not a very big tip anyway!

All you can eat sushi was awesome! It was a lot and I could not finish it. It was fresh and tasty. I can't see how you can order another one when they give you three orders of a full roll (approx 6-9 pcs depending on the type you order).

Kinkaku is a hidden gem in Pigeon Forge. In fact, the night we went, there were only 4 other tables taken. We decided to trust Tripadvisor and stay, and boy were we happy we stayed. For starters, this is a restaurant that stays true to its culture. It seems to be family owned, and they make a great team. Our server was very pleasant, efficient, and sweet. Don't come here if you're boring, or have a bad sense of humor. I saw another table with a family who left their happiness at the door when they came in. They weren't laughing, or getting into the experience, and I felt very bad for the chef who was doing an excellent job. Our chef was excellent at entertaining, and often made cute jokes, so be prepapred to cut loose and smile a little! He even made a neat firey volcano with stacked onions! The food here was SO reasonable. Our sushi was very fresh and the portion generous. I think the chicken HIbachi starts at around $11.95. This is for a salad, soup, chicken, rice, and veggies. I had the shrimp, and every bite was fresh, tasty, and perfectly seasoned. The sushi was also fresh and reasonable! I would highly make it a point to come here while you're in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. In a land full of boring BBQ and Pancakes, this restaurant stands out as a unique gem. You can have fun as a family, or fun as a couple. Don't forget to print out a 15% off coupon from their website to save some $!

Slightly disappointed after hearing (and reading) good things. Good prices and huge portions but mediocre compared to other Japanese Steak Houses I've been to. Ambience much lacking.

Went here with my boyfriend for our first night in the Gatlinburg area, based soley off of Yelp reviews. It was great. The service was good, we were seated immediately and the place was pretty crowded. Most of the Hibachi tables were filled. We both had the hibachi and I had a vegetable sushi roll and my boyfriend had the super crunch roll. They were both delicious. We got $2.50 drafts and some saki as well. All for a good price. Definitely recommend this place.

Glad we trusted yelp for this one. Good food, great service. Prices on the sushi were unbelievably low. The outside isn't much to look at, but you just have to get past that.

Great place to eat. Like others said, it wasn't very busy which is a shame. Unlike the hibachi places I've been to before, they didn't wait until the table was full before starting. The three of us sat immediately and they started serving. It did affect the hibachi show because there were only 2 meals being prepared so it was short but the chef was still good and the food was great... Including the sushi/sashimi.

i'm feeling a bit lazy today so i will just echo what yelper NANCY said, in fact it was her review that made me stop in and give them a try while mountain biking in the area. I am from Chicago and had eaten at SUSHI SAMBA a few days before arriving in Pigeon Forge and i can assure you the rolls here are every bit as good(or better) as those at S.S. , the main difference is what cost us $100 there cost only $30 here, the all you can eat sushi for around $15 is a RIDICULOUS deal, these are not small rolls either, in fact many of the slices could have easily been sliced agin making each roll the equivilent of 8 pieces..although it is all you can eat, neither of us was able to even finish our initial order of 3 selections so i would warn you to choose wisely as you may not eat more than your initial order(which is still a GREAT deal at only $15)...let me also say our server (from Ukraine) was extremely friendly and helpful as was the lady i'll assume was the owner...amazingly, we were the only 2 people in the restaurant eating on the "sushi side" which is slightly seperate from the hibachi section...we have a few marginal "all you can eat sushi" places in chicago and i don't even bother going as they are so crowded, unfriendly and the sushi is only fair, this place blows them away with its enormous selection and quality.. i hate to write this because maybe next time i come i will have to wait in line but they deserve the business...i am going back today after my ride and maybe tomorrow before i leave....it doesn't look like much from the outside but is very pleasant inside.

I ate at Kinkaku yesterday because of its positive reviews on Yelp. It was really good. The outside appears a bit uncared for which doesn't immediately give a good impression. The inside is the typical American-style Japanese restaurant, with tables and a hibachi bar, with a some Japanese paintings on the walls. That said, I go to restaurants mainly to eat, and in that regard Kinkaku is excellent. The all you can eat sushi, for $16, is the best deal, in my opinion. You got soup, salad, and three sushi dishes (of which my favorite is the volcano roll, but the unagi is good, too) to start with. Once you finish that off, you can ask for another sushi plate if you want - but good luck, because three plates of sushi is a LOT of food! The green tea goes amazingly with it all. Overall, I would say this was one of the better restaurants I've been to, and probably the best Japanese in the south.

The food was just ok. The cook seemed rushed and was openly yelling to other chefs to hurry that they were short handed. He was slinging food all over as he cooked. Once we got our food, the chicken was hard from being overcooked. The steak and shrimp were just ok. The wait staff also seemed overwhelmed. When the meal was done, she brought the other party their check and took another ten minutes to bring ours and then only because we asked. The floor was so greasy that I could moonwalk like Michael Jackson.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. We eat here every year while on vacation. Kids love it! All the chopping and twirling and fire erupting! We get the hibachi and sushi. Food is good - not great. Ambiance is a little....um....well...it's an old hibachi place. Smells like hibachi and has slippery tile floors. People there are super nice. Hibachi chefs are funny and entertaining. It's mostly about the experience. Try it out, have some fun.

Date: Summer, August 7th, 2015 Enter restaurant at 8:00pm with party of 8 persons and we were waiting on four more. We were all seated within 5min because there was not a wait. (Should've been the first red flag). Anyhow, the entry way temperature was pretty cool. as we were being seated, our entire party began to realize that their AC was out ??? We started to question whether or not we should even eat. Because we had such a large party and we had 4 people who had not even arrived yet, we decided to stay. (And our waiter sat us in front of a large industrial fan). None-the-less many of us also ignored the slippery feeling of the floor at we entered. It seemed as if there was a layer of grease coating the floor! It only get worse from there. My husband reached his hand under the bar of the chair to scoot our 5yr old closer, and a layer of black grease caked his hand and he was disgusted. He didn't want to ruin everyone else's meal though. During our meal, we(customers) had to keep moving the fan on various directions-mainly because it was a constant problem with the cooks/grill and everything. . . It blew smoke from the grill into everyone's eyes on more than one occasion. Additionally, no one wanted to even touch the fan because it seemed like it was used in the cooks kitchen for years with layers and layers of dust and grease and after noticing it- we had had an internal war going on inside our heads figuring we could feel hot, muggy, and greasy without a fan blowing in Us OR we could feel hot, muggy, and greasy with a fan potentially blowing God Knows what our way! Another disgusting discovery was when i accidently put my arm down on a shelf in the back (where the TV is) and picked it up to find yet more funk! It wouldn't surprise me if its been a year since their chairs, under tables, and shelves have been cleaned. The food was all questionably due to the poor cleanliness of the facility. I will say that I was again dissatisfied with the lack of items avail. (Comparable to other Japanese restaurants.) For example, they did not have Ginger sauce or mixed drinks, or wine, or coolers. Only select beers. The sushi chef was also a cook and because 1 person in the group didn't order until the appetizers came out, he didn't get his food until after the cook had completely finished cooking everyone's else's meals at the table. (He was told this after the chef started cooking). The staff had poor communication throughout the night- probably just because their primary language was not English. Also they were forgetful, weren't prompt in refilling drinks, etc. I could go one and on! It's one of those-why even calm the manager because there is obviously lack of it. Our entire party decided to just promise to write reviews in it so that no one else would waste their time or money!

It's not a fancy place on the outside, but on the inside it is clean, with a nice decor, excellent food and a very friendly, courteous staff. My wife and I had a very good dining experience there. The prices are very reasonable also. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Very nice people. The sushi and calamari was excellent. My husband asked if they served kimchi. Since they didn't the waiter was nice enough to give him some he brought from home. That is going above and beyond customer service. We will be back.

The hostess acted as the main server while maintaining the front. After we got our soup that tasted like bread and salad that looked horrible, our chef was not entertaining, steak was not cooked properly and aroma smelt like propane. Not to mention my water tasting sweet! No thank you! Most unclean place I've ate at so far.

My family and I initially were suppose to go to Little Tokyo, but the wait was 1.5 hrs, so we decided to try this hibachi. I was a little skeptical because of the reviews however my family and I had a good experience. Overall this hibachi was pretty good despite some of the reviews. The place was pretty clean overall. We were definitely given a warm welcome and the staff was very friendly. Our waiter John was awesome and we all had some great laughs. Overall the food was pretty good was well. My fiancé and I had the chicken and shrimp combo and it was good. The portion of the combo is very reasonable, so reasonable that I barely ate any shrimp by the time it was put on my plate because I had eaten everything else first. No fault to the chef, it was a group of 10 of us and someone was allergic to shrimp so it had to be cooked last. I ate the rice, veggies, noodles, and chicken that when the shrimp came I was full. Everyone enjoyed their food. However, their yum yum sauce was not as good as other places I have been. People also ordered steak besides chicken and shrimp and they liked it. We had the chef named Bernard (I think, please see pic) and he was AMAZING ! Great personality and gave lots of laughs. We all had an amazing time as a family and enjoyed our dinner.

It was okay. They don't do the all you can eat anymore so I was little disappointed about that.. The shrimp tempura app was really good and the rolls were decent. The waiter was nice. The reason I give 3 stars is because they didn't really have any specialty rolls it was more generic.

We came here searching for Sushi and not hibachi. We didn't get hibachi at all when we were here because of preference, but I will say that while we were on looking the chefs and others, their show seemed nicely done, entertaining, and people were pleased. Our table had gotten three rolls:: Volcano Roll which was out of this world, Spicy Tuna and Dragon which were both insanely fresh and, for the price they were big! I loved this place. We thought we might have been shunned a bit for not getting the hibachi but we sat near everyone else and the waitress was phenomenal and super nice! We got a side of shrimp tempura which came with a coconut soy sauce (amazing!) and beef fried rice with real strips of beef! All for 40$. Will return.

I have been here several times and always try to stop by when I am I'm town on business. And for that matter, pleasure as well. You will not find more reasonably priced hibachi and the sushi is highly recommended. Served fast. Good portions. You will leave full. Most recent meal was steak and shrimp for $17.95. Only hibachi I've seen that serves lo mein with the meal. Good food. Good deal. Nothing fancy.

I just went with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. I was very skeptical, since the birthday boy loves to find good deals, which do not always pan out. I was pleasantly surprised by the polite staff, and quality of food. I got stuck in Honey Boo Boo traffic, (her family was performing across the street at the comedy barn?) and arrived late. As a waiter helped a family to their car, he asked if I was a part of the birthday party, and let me know that he had my green tea already waiting for me. He was a very gentlemanly and happy. Everyone but me ordered meat or seafood versions of the hibachi grill. I do not normally like chicken, but it looked delicious. I ordered sushi. The texture of he salmon nigiri was good. I wish I had ordered more nigiri, and less rolls. The volcano and an eel avocado (caterpillar) rolls were both well made, especially for this part of the country. The wasabi, sadly, was almost neutral. I have found this to be no small phenomenon in the south. A 15% tip was added on, since we were a "party of 5 or more." I tipped more than that, since the service was very good. I will be back! *plenty of aisle room for anyone with a wheelchair, walker or crutches. **Unless the sudden hibachi fire is an issue, this one gets the combat vet seal of approval for an anxiety free experience. Very calm atmosphere.

Prefer No stars. Stared off with the host throwing the menus on our plates. The grille was not anywhere near clean. The "volcano trick" with the onions....well we got to eat lighter fluid. Chef complained about having to work the day before. He didn't fill up any sauces before he left...the list goes on and on. Oh yeah...and I had to get up and change the channel on the tv so my small children didn't watch strippers dancing on jerry springer. We have been to some pretty awesome hibachi grills so maybe our expectations were high but these guys were the bottom of the barrel.

Ate with my family tonight. My wife and children, ages 2 and 4, absolutely loved it. We were very pleased with the service and the food was excellent. I had the chicken and steak combo while my wife are the chicken. The chef put on a solid show and kept the children entertained and was attentive to them. Both of my kids are excellent eaters but rarely this quiet and zoned in while eating. I can't say enough how good the food was. Not too salty (which seems like a common occurrence in my opinion), the chicken and steak was moist and very well cooked. Along with your typical veggies they add noodles to the stir fry which was a nice touch. Definitely eat here while in Pigeon Forge. I assure you this will be a stop we make next time we're here.

I wish that I could leave "no stars". This was our worst experience during our entire vacation. My SO is a vegetarian so there are not a lot of options for her in TN. When we came across Kinkaku and saw that it had 4 stars, we figured it would be a safe bet. WRONG. First, the place has a really strange and awful smell. We almost left then and I wish that we had. The place seemed dirty. And this was early, around 6pm. Our waiter, had to be his first job ever, was beyond incompetent. When I asked for chopsticks, he actually said, "oh, I didn't think that you could use them". They were out of stuff, sat us in the wrong area, forgot things, etc. The sushi was horrible and we each ate maybe 2 pieces from our rolls. The best part. I was starving when we went in. I ordered Beef Soba and a roll. Soba never comes and the waiter brings the check not long after we get our rolls. I ask where my Soba is. True story. He says, "Oh, you really wanted that? They are very busy in the kitchen now". I looked at this guy in amazement. I say, "are you kidding me? Are you telling me that I now need to go somewhere else for dinner because your chef is too busy to make mine here?" And he says, "yes, do you mind?". I have never encountered anything like this before and I hope that I never do again. For the life of me I can not understand how this place stays in business.

Just got back from here , had our pre Super Bowl dinner. It wasn't too bad. i wasn't expecting much considering we were in TN. But this was comparable in price and service to most of this type of restaurant. The place was small and cozy and the decorations were pleasing. In spite of the location the waiter did not seem to have a great grasp of English which made asking questions about menu items a bit difficult but we got it squared away. We were in a party of five so the gratuity was automatically added to our check. The cook seemed a bit slower than in most of these places but maybe we were clock watching because we didn't want to miss kickoff. All in all not bad, better than the restaurant at the hotel LOL.

The good:prices were fair and the portions were huge. The cook was entertaining. The bad:took a long time to sit our group even though we had a reservation and the restaurant was only half full. Also took an extremely long time to take our order. In general the place seemed under staffed.

I want to start off by saying that I was very confused by the mixed reviews on here... I mean sushi is normally good or bad right? I would have preferred to eat somewhere else and just skip the sushi; however, it was my one-year anniv. & that was what we did on our first date (awwww! lol). We sat at the bar and ordered sushi, so I am unable to comment on the hibachi side; however, it sounded like they were having fun over there. The person who greeted us seemed very nice, and there was a guy walking around who appeared to be the owner who was also very nice... but the guy behind the bar who was making the sushi seemed grumpy/impersonal (maybe he was just busy and I misread him). It appeared as if he was taking frozen fish from a nearby freezer and thawing it out in the sink as each order came in, which made the sushi have uneven temperatures & an inconsistent texture. I look for freshness and flavors when it comes to sushi, and it appeared that Kinkaku more so relies on tactics to cover up the fact that the rolls aren't fresh and of good quality. For example, the Yum Yum roll that we ordered (b/c it was supposedly one of the best sellers) relied on the fact that it was fried and had cream cheese. I guess that could be good to some people, but it was also sitting in a mini-pool of what appeared to be thousand island dressing. Another example would be with the caterpillar roll, which was overloaded with avocado slices. Don't get me wrong, I like avocado; however, the amount they put on there was overwhelming; I think each roll had 4-5 slices stacked on each other. In the end, of the 6 rolls we had originally ordered for the all-you-can-eat deal, we managed to get down a total of 2 rolls total, and we normally clean house when we go eat sushi.. 6 rolls, 5 orders of nigiri, soup, salad, etc. (which reminds me, even the soup & salad was disappointing). Thankfully, the owner came over and listened to our feedback of why we were leaving so much on our plates and adjusted our bill accordingly. Moral of the story is... stick with the local joints if you are visiting the Smokies - no sushi ;)

Went with my family (11 of us) and they were very accommodating. The hibachi was so good and the chef was very charismatic. We asked them not to use a lot of butter and he only used a little bit, and It was probably some of the best hibachi I've ever had. Unlike most places, the chicken was not dry or overcooked and actually really moist, and the flavor was great. My uncle also tried the sushi, and it wasn't bad at all like the other reviews say. DELICIOUS!!

Tacky decor, table was grimy, bathrooms were atrocious, waitress was not very attentive, cook barely spoke English and spent more time making jokes he thought were funny (but no one else did) than being attentive to our food, cook "forgot" to bring out enough steaks for everyone who ordered them, rice was very bland, everything else was doused in teriyaki sauce as it's only flavor. Terrible experience. Would never go back.

I had the all you can eat sushi for $17.99, you pick three rolls to start and then you order one at a time after that. The rolls were big and very nicely done. The sushi chef did not wait for the waitress, he would rush the rolls to the table as soon as he finished them, he was awesome. The sushi was very good and you can't beat the value. Be sure to tip the sushi chef personally, he's great guy and is very anxious to make sure you have a good experience.

I'm unsure why this place has so many good reviews. The sushi was bland and the fish was not up to par. My husband said he liked the volcano roll but after mine I didn't want to try it. It was quite disappointing to order all you can eat sushi an not eat much at all. Also, the TV was on Nickelodeon....which was kind of weird.

  • Ashleigh S.

Like other reviews, I was skeptical about eating here but I tried it anyways. The service was good and the food was ok... I had the "all you can eat" sushi dinner for $18. You start with three rolls then after you finish you can order one roll at a time. One thing I notice when I received my sushi was that there was slightly too much rice on each piece. Which they probably do that so you can get full quicker. The sushi was ok but definitely not the best.

I was pretty skeptical of any Japanese food in Pigeon Forge, TN, but we weren't feeling up to a buffet our first night in and decided to take Yelp's advice on this one. it wasn't crowded, which is nice in comparison to the mess everywhere else. The service was polite and prompt, and the hibachi was far from the best I've had here in Atlanta, but was good, and thats more than I expected! My only complaints were the chef literally did only 2 tricks and then just gave up on the rest of his time with us. He didn't talk to us, or make jokes. Just did his business and cut out. Pretty lame, I thought. Other than that, I thought it was odd they only offered one sauce with our meal, the white shrimp sauce. Every hibachi I've had previously has at least 3. I was too scared to try sushi in the Tennessee mountains, so I cant remark on how that part was.

While vacationing in Gatlinburg I found myself in the mood for sushi. Kinkaku was the first place that showed up when I searched Yelp and then I discovered that they offer all you can eat sushi, I was sold. When we arrived there was only 1 other table of people in the place and they were doing hibachi. Only one more couple came in while we were there and they got their food to go. I think the location may have a lot to do with the lack of business. We had driven the main road in Pigeon Forge numerous times and I only saw this place because I was looking for it. Both my wife and I ordered the all you can eat sushi. It comes with a chicken based soup, I don't eat chicken so I ordered a Miso soup which arrived once we were halfway through with our sushi. By that point I was over wanting soup but I did eat a small amount and found it to be very salty. The cucumber salad that come with the special was very good, my only complaint is they don't give you enough. :) As for the sushi it was good but I've had better. Several of the pieces fell apart upon picking them up. Had they been wrapped a little tighter and more time taken to make them this wouldn't have happened. The sushi is definitely not all you can eat. We each ordered our 3 pieces to start out with and our check was brought before we finished them and we were never offered more. The waitress didn't even revisit our table until we put the card out to pay. Overall, the food was good, service was decent and the ad misleading.

Discussing! Half way through the meal we saw a cockroach on the floor. Sushi was so awful we couldn't finish. Would not recommend this place at all. Don't waste your money unless you want to try the Hibachi grill, just don't go near the sushi!
